Reliable Menders ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding that data.

By creating an account or using our platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Reliable Menders app or website.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

Information you provide directly:

  • Full name, email address, phone number, and password when you register.
  • Profile details such as your skill categories, bio, and profile photo (Contractors).
  • KYC documents: government-issued ID (NIN, Passport, Driver's Licence, or Voter's Card), selfie, and proof of address where applicable.
  • Bank account details provided for withdrawals.
  • Job descriptions, bids, messages, and reviews posted on the platform.

Information collected automatically:

  • Device information (model, OS, app version).
  • IP address and approximate location derived from it.
  • Precise location data (with your permission) used to match Clients with nearby Contractors.
  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, and actions taken in the app.
  • Log data — error reports, timestamps, and session identifiers.

Information from third parties:

  • Payment information processed by Paystack. We do not store your full card details; Paystack handles card data under their own PCI-compliant security standards.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Verify your identity through the KYC process.
  • Match Clients with suitable Contractors based on location and service type.
  • Process payments, withdrawals, and refunds.
  • Send transactional notifications (job updates, payment confirmations, dispute alerts).
  • Provide customer support and resolve disputes.
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud or policy violations.
  • Improve the platform through usage analytics.
  • Comply with legal obligations under Nigerian law.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects without human review.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following bases:

  • Contract performance — to deliver the services you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — to prevent fraud, improve the platform, and ensure platform safety.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable Nigerian laws and regulations.
  • Consent — for location access and optional marketing communications, which you can withdraw at any time.

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as follows:

  • Between platform users: A Contractor's name, profile photo, skill categories, location (state level), and rating are visible to Clients. A Client's name and job details are shared with Contractors they engage with.
  • Paystack: Payment details are shared with Paystack to process transactions.
  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party providers (cloud hosting, analytics, notifications) who process data only on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal authorities: We may disclose data where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Reliable Menders or our users.

6. Location Data

We request access to your device location to match you with nearby users and to display your approximate location on service maps. You can deny location permission at any time through your device settings, though some features will be limited without it. We do not share your precise GPS coordinates with other users — only a general area is shown publicly.

7. KYC Documents

Identity documents submitted during KYC verification are used solely for identity verification purposes. They are stored securely and are accessible only to authorised Reliable Menders staff responsible for the verification process. We do not share KYC documents with other users or third parties except where required by law.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with services. Specifically:

  • Account data is retained for the life of your account plus 2 years after deletion, for fraud prevention and legal compliance.
  • KYC documents are retained for 5 years after account closure in accordance with Nigerian financial regulations.
  • Transaction records are retained for 7 years as required by Nigerian tax and financial laws.
  • Messages and job history are retained for 3 years after project completion.

9. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption of data in transit (TLS), encrypted storage of sensitive fields, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential and for notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

10. Your Rights

Under applicable Nigerian data protection law (NDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion — request deletion of your data, subject to our legal retention obligations.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g. location, marketing), you may withdraw at any time.

11. Children's Privacy

Reliable Menders is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we become aware that a minor has registered, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.

12. Third-Party Links

The platform may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g. Paystack, social media). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before sharing any information with them.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
